Story
In 2009 a teacher of mine, Rupert Rosedale, died in an avalanche on Ben Nevis leaving behind not only a huge hole in the fabric of our school but also a wife and two kids. It was a tragic loss to the school and in his memory Super Sunday was created to try and fill the void his death caused.
He was an outgoing, adventurous man who led a fantastic Outdoor Activities department and gave enjoyment to all that were involved with him. Super Sunday aims to raise funds for charities who help those looking to participate outdoors. This year we are raising money for Lochaber Mountain Rescue.
LMR was set up in the late 1960s by local climbers to help fellow climbers in difficulties on the mountains of Lochaber and especially on Ben Nevis. It was and still is today entirely made up of volunteers. LMR attend incidents that are remote from the road side where normal emergency services are unable to operate.
These incidents vary from rescuing a climber stuck on the sheer north face of Ben Nevis to a canoeist stuck in an inaccessible gorge. The number of incidents has been increasing year on year to the current level of between 80 and 100 rescues per year.
This charity has been chosen before by C1 in memory of Rupert Rosedale. LMR were on hand in attempt to rescue Rupert, when he died in a fatal avalanche on Ben Nevis.
