I thought I would keep you up to date with my news, as I am leaving my gorgeous children (and husband) this Wednesday to go to Botswana for 10 days. This is not a jolly however, because I am going with a charity called Project Volunteer (www.project-volunteer.com) to help the orphans in two SOS Children's Villages, one in Gabarone and the other in Serowe.
Although these children have nothing, they don't think of themselves as poor in our terms, they just haven't got any parents. When I first spoke to the leader of this project, I wasn't sure I had any skills I could bring along; there is little demand for interior design. He simply said "You are a mother".
Whilst the children don't need posessions like we have, the ongoing cost of supporting the Project Volunteer house in Serowe is £5,000. We would like to be able to send to SOS this amount every year to ensure that the children have in addition to taking a number of carefully selected gifts.
£10 per week pays for 150 children to have an apple a day which is seen as a luxury. Your donation is truly making a difference.
We have now built our first house and the focus for 2011 year is on raising funds to provide a water well and pump system for the Serowe village at a cost of £15,000. This is vital to help the village grow their own fruit and vegetables, which obviously helps with budgetary control.
