On the 21 September I will be cycling from London to Paris! As many of you will know I am not particularly known for my sporting prowess or my commitment to anything that requires me getting remotely sweaty but then this isn’t just for anything.

As many of you will know my Dad, Stuart Cameron, was diagnosed with cancer in October 2009, as you can imagine it was an incredible shock to both him and all the family but thanks to the Beatson (West of Scotland Cancer Centre) and particularly the Friends of the Beatson my father was able to continue living as normal a life as possible as he underwent life saving treatment. His treatment continued for 18 grueling months and throughout this time the Friends of the Beatson organisation were able to support him in many ways, they gave him an escape from the monotony of the treatment and enabled him to carry on working and directing his team, giving him a vital link back to the office. It also provided a much-needed safe haven in the midst of the turmoil and pain of chemotherapy.

Friends of the Beatson, was set up by two former cancer patients at the Beatson and is designed to make the lives of cancer patients better. They do this by providing practical comfort and support for patients at The Beatson. They work with the patients themselves and with the Beatson staff, medical, nursing and administrative - to ensure that they deliver the support in the best possible way for patients.
