Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain & Northern Ireland - Dog sledding in the Arctic Circle · 25 January 2010 ·

Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This great event occurred last week under challenging conditions. -30 degrees with some inhospitable weather along the way it was a truly adventurous holiday. There were times when we wished we could be in the warm comfort of home! The scenery is undoubtedly spectacular as one would expect so far north, especially with lots of snow having fallen and drifting in the wind! It made looking after the dogs a huge effort- at night they dug themselvs their own snow holes (60+ dogs between 10 of us). Unfortunately there was no opportunity to see the aurora borealis, however an outside night visit was not too desirable in the temperatures!

We did however get the chance to visit the ice hotel near Alta. Very interesting sculptures throughout although it did rather remind me of the "prac cells" at school and was far from comfortable. An obvious tourist attraction that took months to build.

I feel very lucky to have partaken in this trip. Although I will be unlikely to repeat it or anything like it.

MS and balance problems were exacerbated in the deep snow and made a huge difference to me personally.

Lets hope that with the advacement of the new drugs it will not get any worse.
