So as you can see from the picture at the top I've completed my first challenge of 2018 - the Ty Hafan Rainbow Run in Swansea at the end of April.
Now I am on to challenge number 2 - The Hike it or Bike it Challenge for Alzheimer's Society on Sunday 20th May. I am doing the challenge with hubby, Andy and his colleagues from the HSBC Contact Centre in Swansea. It's 21 miles long and the route will take us from Swansea to Bridgend. Not along the M4, which would be a bit mind-numbing but up and over the mountains towards Maesteg and then dropping down again. I hope the weather is kind to us, as we should be rewarded with magnificent views across the Swansea Bay area.
The views are the bonus, the reason for doing this is to raise money for Alzheimer's Society. I was fortunate not to have any member of my close family diagnosed with dementia. I say fortunate as it is heartbreaking to hear friends and colleagues talk about seeing their parents or family members disappear before their eyes. The person they once knew no longer there and all those shared memories gone. I can only imagine how frightening it must be for someone to no longer remember their life or their family and friends.
We are making so many advances in the understanding and treatment of diseases and I'm sure that we will be able to find a cure for dementia in the future. In the meantime Alzheimer's Society are helping people affected by dementia right now to live as full a life as possible. To help them continue this valuable work please donate if you can to help me reach my target of £150.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
