Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.   I am trying with several others to raise funds to help build a 6 bed high dependency unit in Chikwawa District in South West Malawi.  For those living in Malawi life is hard with the average life expectancy being only 50-51 years old.  A significant proportion of infants will die before their 5th birthday from a variety of issues including inadequate healthcare provision to treat malaria, bilharzia and HIV to name but a few.  Even having enough food to live off and fresh clean water is still a major issue in this country.  FROM Scotland have lots of fantastic projects up and running in Malawi and I would urge you to look at their pages to see what good work they have already done.  I'm going out to visit in June for 3 weeks and am taking a group of 16-18 year olds to help with the high dependency unit and also to give them an understanding of the plight of other human beings when we come from a relatively priviledged society ourselves.  I work in a group of intensive care units and high dependency units where we have a budget of nearly £19 million pounds each year which hopefully makes my fundraising target of £18,000 look like peanuts.  I know that this facility will make a massive difference to the survival rate of critically ill patients in Malawi and I hope that we as a collection of donators can share our humanity by helping those that need help.  Please feel free to donate as much or a little as you can as every penny counts.  Thank you so much for your support it means a great deal to me.
