Hello.

I’m looking for your support for something really important, and I hope you can help.

My friends and I are doing a 12 hour treadmill challenge on Saturday 10 July, covering a total distance of 380km (the distance from Newbury to Ludlow and back) to raise money for
Mercia Accident Rescue Service who treated us after our terrible accident in November 2008 and who saved my friend Jo's life at the scene.

MARS is a life-saving rapid response charity, made up of a very experienced volunteer team of doctors, who are specifically trained in major trauma. They perform pre-hospital emergency care and surgery for people who need immediate and often life-saving care at the scene of an accident.

Our Story

On November 28 2008 myself and three of my best friends, Jo, Clare & Michelle, went on our annual girls weekend away. This time our trip took us to Ludlow to see the Christmas market. Sadly tragedy struck just hours after we arrived...we were walking down the high street when a bus lost control, mounted the pavement and ploughed into us - the driver had suffered a heart attack and died at the wheel. Clare and I were severely battered and bruised, Michelle suffered a dislocated knee, and Jo had taken the full impact of the bus. She sustained life-threatening chest, pelvic and back injuries, broke five ribs and damaged ligaments in her leg.

First on the scene were the amazing fire crew and paramedics, and then Dr Malcolm Russell from MARS arrived. Malcolm undertook a procedure at the scene where he put a pelvic belt on Jo to control the internal bleeding caused by her fractured pelvis. We all evenutally arrived at Shrewsbury Hospital in separate ambulances and Jo underwent emergency surgery through the night.

Everyone involved in our care has been amazing, but without MARS, Jo wouldn't be here today.

So, this is why we've organised this challenge to raise as much money as we can for this wonderful charity, enabling them to carry on with their life-saving work. One day someone you love might need their help, so please give what you can.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.

So please dig deep and donate now. Thank you.
