Story

On Tuesday 20th December 2011, I sang and/or played on the piano and flute 240 hymns & songs in this 12hr sponsored music event. My aim was to raise as much money as possible for the Youth Trip to South Africa in July 2012.

An awesome £820 was raised including offline pledges & donations. I am so grateful to EVERYONE who has supported this endeavour in prayer, practical support or financially. THANK YOU.

With Gift Aid included from the online giving , my individual overall target has been met but it's not too late if you were still wanting to donate towards the Youth Trip in general. All funds raised above & beyond the target will go towards the project costs of the work we will be doing with Arise in Cape Town.

Here are more details about Arise and the sponsored event that has now happened...

In July 2012, I am travelling to South Africa with 9 youth and 2 other leaders to help with a charity called Arise who work with vulnerable children.

To raise funds for our flights, living & travelling expenses whilst we're in SA and also for the project itself, I have set myself a challenge to play the piano or flute for 12hours on Tuesday 20th December.

In summary my challenge is this: for our trip in 2012, on 20/12, I will play 20 songs per hour for 12hrs, finishing at 20:12.

So if you are able to support me in this, either in person on the day (at my church in Farnborough GU14 8ER- all welcome whether or not you're able to bring & play an instrument and/or sing) OR by clicking "donate" on this page, it would be greatly appreciated. Here's more about the charity we're going to SA to help...

Arise work in a poor community in the outskirts of Cape Town in an area called the Cape Flats. The charity has a special connection as it was set up five years ago by a young lady, Debbie, who grew up in our church before moving to South Africa. Follow this link to Arise's website - http://www.arisecapetown.org.za/

Debbie and her husband Alun do incredible practical work. Arise works with children who might find themselves in crisis because of abuse, severe neglect, abandonment, homelessness, parents imprisonment, parents who are sick and unable to find employment. We will also be spending time with the youth at their church, St Thomas', Heideveld.

If you click to donate, proceeds will go to my church, the Church of the Good Shepherd, who are handling the money for us.

Please give as generously as you can. If you have any questions, I'd be delighted to answer them. Thanks.
