Thanks for visiting. On Saturday I am shaving my head in support of my friend Vicky, who, has recently been diagnosed with a rare brain tumour. After surgery in early November, she is due to start a long and arduous course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment aimed at controlling the disease.
Prior to losing her hair due to the cancer treatment, she has decided to take control and shave her head to raise funds for several charities in Scotland, including the Highland Hospice. Her page for donations is here. www.justgiving.com/Vicky-Galbraith.
While supporting Vicky I also wanted to take the opportunity to raise funds for the Laura Centre, a Leicester based charity that offers support to anyone who is affected by the death of a child and for any child or young person who is affected by the death of a parent. It is recognised as a national centre for excellence in bereavement counselling, and wants to transform three rooms into a dedicated child and adolescent counselling suite and create an area for children to explore their grief through arts and crafts.
When my friend Kerry died after a short illness last year, his older two children had counselling at the centre. The family don't know how they could have coped without the centre's help. Their story was featured in the Leicester Mercury last week: http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/news/Help-hope-grieving-children/article-2920443-detail/article.html
I really don't want to shave my head. It's freezing, I've only recently spent a fortune on colouring it, and I know I'm going to have a really ugly, square head. Please make it worth my while by sponsoring Vicky on the link above, or me.
