This year Scuba Action are again supporting Fisher house with their annual charity Snorkel/Swim Event. The Challenge?! This year we are aiming to swim 1,782 Lengths which is the distance from Southam leisure centre to Fisher House at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

We are looking for at least 60 able bodied volunteers to gain sponsorship and swim 30 lengths (or anything they are comfortable with) on Sunday the 15th of November between 13:00 and 17:30 to complete the challenge of both distance and sponsorship to raise funds for this very worthy cause!

Fisher House UK is funded completely by charitable donations, and recognises the tremendous sacrifices of our military men and women in the armed forces

Fisher House is a 'home away from home' for military patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and their loved ones. This means that when military patients are being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, their families can stay at Fisher House.

Due to the world class care carried out at QEHB, and the lessons learnt from the battlefield, servicemen and women often survive injuries today that they would have died from just a few years ago. But injuries sustained can be life-changing, and for their families, the knock at the door is something they dread.

When we speak to the families of injured servicepeople, they tell us that when they hear their loved one is injured they just want to get to Birmingham as soon as possible, without any thought about where they will stay when they get there. Fisher House is here for them: a “home away from home” within walking distance of the hospital, providing a safe space for families to adjust and recover during this difficult time.

Fisher House has 18 large family bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities, and disabled access throughout. There are also communal facilities to enable military patients to get out of the ward and spend time with families, friends and colleagues in a non-clinical environment.
