If you're reading this, the chances are you've read a fair few of my JustGiving blurbs before, and that you already know exactly why we're doing this. It's been 6 and a half years since Hannah was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, she is now 9 years old and her childhood is slipping away. Photos of her as a one year old, or an eighteen month old, are too painful to look at, and the enormity of what she is missing out on grows every day. The only word she has left is 'mummy', but it is not a 'mummy' of joy or delight, it is a 'mummy' which seems to say 'help me'. 

I don't have the words to describe how that feels. 

Instead, and because I don't know how else to try to help my daughter, I'm asking you, again, to help me. The research is promising, the breakthroughs are significant, the progress is slow but steady. We're getting there. 

Between October 14th and 16th, people all over the world will be helping us to get there a little quicker. The virtual run is about connecting people everywhere, completing 5k or 10k across the same weekend, to help make change possible for girls like Hannah. We (the 5 of us) will be joining friends and family in a 5k walk around Nonsuch park on 16th October, and for the first time Hannah and her brothers will be coming with us. We won't be fast - much like the research, progress will be slow and steady, but with a little help from our friends, we'll get there.
