Link Family and Community Centre - Football As A Foreign Language · 30 June 2011 ·

The Link works with vulnerable and at risk individuals, many of whom experience deprivation, exclusion or loneliness. We provide a range of facilities, programmes and support for young people; older people; children and young parents; migrant workers; people experiencing chronic addiction to alcohol; and churches and community groups wishing to engage in community and good relations work. Our work is underpinned by community development principles and our mission is to seek to accept and value individuals as they are, enabling them to recognise their self worth and encouraging them to achieve their full potential.

Story

In July 2011 we are planning to take 36 people, Including disadvantaged young people and clients of The MARC Project to Telkibanya in Hungary for 11 days. The programme called “Football as a foreign language” aims to challenge their views around ethnic minorities, help them develop common ground through the use of football and show that they can have a positive impact on communities. They will be running a football coaching programme for some of the younger children in the village, as well as playing football alongside Hungarian young people against other teams. MARC Clients will also be helping in other community projects.
