Football Marathon · 11 June 2007

TackleAfrica uses the power and popularity of football to deliver HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) information and services to young people on football pitches across the continent

Story

Welcome to the fundraising page of the Football Marathon 2007.

The Football Marathon is the ultimate test of football skill and physical endurance, and this year almost 200 people will be playing football for 12 hours on Clapham Common on 21st July.  All the money raised will help Tackle Africa reach people affected by HIV/AIDS across Africa, using football as a way of attracting support to the life-saving messages and services provided.

This is the 6th and largest Football Marathon, and this year we're aiming to raise a minimum of £40,000 with your help.  Gift Aiding your donation makes it worth almost a third more at no extra cost to you, so please dig deep and help this fantastic cause.

Please come down and support us on the day too - we'll be in the main part of the common near Clapham Common Tube station and there will be numerous games, displays and raffles for you to take part in

On the day of the marathon:

288 games of football will be played

A combined total of 1,536 hours of football will be played - that's the equivalent of 1,000 Premiership games or 64 full days of football

Each player will run roughly 32 miles (that's 6 miles MORE than the London marathon, and a combined total of over 6,000 miles.  That's like one person running from London to Uganda

Thank you for your support

Tom
