STOP PRESS: WE MADE IT!!

On March 1st 2010, at 5.30 in the morning, both David and Peter stood on the summit of Kilimanjaro, 'the roof of Africa'. Their joint comment was along the lines of "we won't be doing this again in a hurry!!" (Their actual words have been modified/censored to suit a sensitive audience)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At 5,892 metres, Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro is some 1,100 metres higher than Mont Blanc and 500 metres higher than Everest Base Camp. Whilst tubby DJ Chris Moyles managed to climb it in aid of Sport Relief last year, it recently defeated Roman Abramovich despite the 140 staff he took with him.

David and Peter will be attempting a slightly more carbon neutral ascent, taking the lesser known 7 day Rongai route to the summit and back.  Both were delighted to read that altitude sickness tends to afflict the fittest of climbers and are working hard to avoid falling into that trap.

The climb will complete at the beginning of March and will raise money for Footsteps.  All being well, David and Peter will then travel to Kenya to visit Kisumu and the Footsteps schools.
