Story
Hi and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm off to India again on April 26th 2010 for 8 days to continue with a rebuilding houses program in the fishing village of Chinnakuppam. I travelled to this region back in October 2009 and had the priveledge of assisting with the building work of 24 houses. This village was dealt a devastating blow by the 2004 Tsunami resulting in 140 families losing their homes and everything they owned. With the help of funding through Christian Missions Charitable Trust (CMCT) some families have slowly started to rebuild their lives. CMCT have already helped, through international assistance, rebuild 110 single room homes helping to restore some kind of normality to the families affected. However, like many fund raising appeals connected to disasters around the world, other events in our lives take priority and funding slows down. My aim is to help CMCT, who have reached out to the world communities again by asking for skilled and unskilled people to travel to this area and also raise money for the materials to build the remaining 30 houses. I will personally fund the cost of my flight as will the rest of the team. The foundations are already laid and it will cost just £3200 to provide the materials to complete each house that will restore a basic quality of life for the people who suffered the nightmare of the "Forgotten Tsunami".
While I'm there I will be working for 6 full days in temperatures between 36 and 42 degrees with each day consisting of the following routine :
05.00 Wake up/Breakfast
05.45 Work Commences
12.00 Lunch and Rest
14.00 Work Resumes
18.00 Finish
19.00 Dinner then Sleep
I will be part of a 8 strong team and our sleeping quarters will consist of floor mattresses in one room that we will share for the duration of the trip. Meals will be provided by the local people.
