Story

Many thanks for taking the time to look at our charity fund raising event. After last years success at raising £1772.00 by riding the Sea-to-sea route we thought we would like to do something similar this year.

This year we plan to ride from Edinburgh to Newcastle (or more affectionally known as Forth to Tyne) in a day in aid of 2 charities - The Alzheimer's Society & Dreamflight charity.

This justgiving page is dedicated to raising money for "Dreamflight". Dreamflight are a UK wide charity raising money to send seriously ill children on a once in a life-time holiday to Florida. Many, many volunteers are already giving up their valuable holiday time, to work for free, providing the specialist care the kids require each day. By donating we are supporting their selfless work and allowing the children some happiness that doesn't come to them so easily (and to their parents some welcome rest from the daily care they have to provide).

Last year we were overwhelmed with the stories people kept mentioning about how The Alzheimer's Society had helped close friends and family of theirs. With this in mind we are also fund-raising for them again.

To donate to the Alzheimers Scoety please visit our 'Edinburgh to Newcastle-Alzheimers Society' page here: www.justgiving.com/Forth-to-Tyne

So the ride... On the 25th June, 6am having dipped our wheels we plan to leave the seven hills of Edinburgh behind and forge a path southwards via Gorebridge to Innerleithen and onto Crosslee, Kielder, Hexham and finally Newcastle.

Detailed route can be found here: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/27445722

Basic stats show an overall length of 147 miles with 1952m of climbing involved and with the vagaries of the British weather it may well get even more challenging

Training - this length of ride is not an everyday ride in the park for anyone so we will be training hard in the next couple of months to try and improve our chances of getting everyone through the big day. We don't know whether we will make it but we do know that we will have tried our hardest upto and on the day to make it happen.

And of course we will have Rach - the very best support driver ever (and we mean that!) who will keep us fed and watered (sometimes by force) and push us with her endless enthusiasm throughout the day.

The money you donate here is ALL going to Dreamflight. We think it is a good cause and hope you do too. The price of a beer (or small round of the amber substance) is all we ask for but any more is gratefully appreciated.

If you would like to lend moral support or come along for part or all of the ride please do. The more the better.

Thanks again,
Ali, Ben, Claire, Chris, Ed, Jim, John, Kate, Tom, Rich, Richard, Roly & Simon. x
