Hello!
At 9.30am on Saturday 12th September four Fothergills and a Trubshaw (plus support crew) anxiously awaited the start of the annual Marathon du Medoc looking to navigate the 26 mile (42km) course via its 23 (twenty three) wine tasting stations whilst embracing this year's "Circus" theme, dressed like something vaguely resembling a group of clowns.
We are pleased to report that all members successfully completed the marathon and thoroughly enjoyed what was a quite spectacular course whilst sampling the produce of the majority of the 53 rather grand chateaux en-route.
After careful consideration we had chosen to run on behalf of the charity Room to Read. We had hoped to raise sufficient funds to build and furnish a library, stock it with books, puzzles, posters and games as well as to train a librarian. In turn benefitting children for years to come in a remote part of the developing world and help to further address the alarming levels of illiteracy, especially amongst girls. The great news is that we have almost achieved our target and require just a few more donations to reach our pre-race goal.
Room to Read partners with local communities throughout the developing world to provide quality educational opportunities by establishing libraries, creating local language children's literature, constructing schools, and providing education to girls. They seek to intervene early in the lives of children in the belief that education empowers people to improve socioeconomic conditions for their families, communities, countries and future generations. Through the opportunities that only education can provide, Room to Read strives to break the cycle of poverty, one child at a time and in just 9 years, the organisation has reached over 3 million children with schools, libraries, books and scholarships. We all thank you for taking the time to visit this sponsorship page and our thanks in advance for your generous pledge.
Thank you and best wishes,
John, Ben, Simon, Richard & Mark.
