Story
Hello,
I’m raising money for Alzheimer's Society using JustGiving and I'd really appreciate your support.
I'm attempting to climb Mt Kilimanjaro (Africa's highest peak) starting on 10th September. I've chosen Alzheimer's society as the money I'm using to pay for this trip is from my inheritance from my grandparents. My grandad battled Alzheimer's for 16 years after being diagnosed at the age of 63 and my grandma was his full time carer, not receiving any other help unitl the very end. He always loved mountains in particular the Lake district and I think this is something he would have liked me to do. My grandad was lucky to have a full time carer but others aren't so lucky and I have seen the strain it also puts on the carers.
Alzheimer's Society is the leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. They work to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia and carry out research to develop future treatments. By helping implement management of dementia strategies the society can make a real difference in improving the quality of life of people who have developed what can be a truly debilitating and distressing disease. From working with patients affected by dementia I have seen what a difference some simple interventions and extra care can make to help to both the patient and their families.
You can make a donation via my page: http://www.justgiving.com/Fran-Johnson. It's easy, fast and totally secure.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated and will help the charity make a difference to the 750 000 people with a form of dementia in the UK.
I'd like to raise 10p for every meter of Kilimanjaro so am aiming for £5895!
Thankyou,
Fran
