Story

Hello and thanks for having a look at this page (with the intention of donating!)

I'm inviting people to join me for a short walk on Sunday 18 October, 7 miles from Hackney Wick to North Woolwich. It's one link in a walk round the capital which starts on 2 October, Gandhi's birthday. More info on www.actionvillageindia.org.uk

We are raising funds so that in October 2012, 100,000 tribal people and landless farmers can make the massive undertaking to walk 350km from Gwalior to Delhi, to protest their rights in law to resources for living: land, water, forest.

Our aim in the UK is to raise £100,000 in total; the equivalent of £1 for each walker. The march in India will be highly organised. People walk in file, sleep by the roadside, 25 in each group, each group has a leader, and there is a coordinator for every 25 leaders. In reality the costs are £30 per walker for their travel and subsistence for a month. And in India the marchers themselves are already gathering rice, pledges of water and milk to make their non-violent protest in Gandhian style.

So, empty your pockets now.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
