Story

I am marching 5km with The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Band who are delighted to be taking part in the inaugural UK Tunnel to Towers run in London.

The run is inspired by the FDNY Tunnel to Towers run, which is organised by the Steven Siller foundation. The UK event will start from King's Stairs Gardens, Bermondsey. It will pass through the Rotherhithe Tunnel and Wapping before finishing with a street party in the shadows of Canary Wharf Tower in London's Docklands.

The band will be marching the full 5km of the run route and will be timing the march to arrive at the finish line around the time of the main runners.

The band will then perform during the street party afterwards at Billingsgate Market. More details will be on this page soon.

Most importantly the band will be marching to raise money for a number of charities. This is a huge ask for the band and will be very challenging, but it's an event we're really looking forward to!

I chose to fundraise for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice as they offered support for my family in a time of need.

My great cousin, Elliott, was born in December 2005 after going into distress during birth.  He was successfully revived but as a result of 12 minutes with a lack of oxygen, he was left with severe cerebral palsy.  Elliott's twin, Evie, was born without any problems.  Elliott stayed in hospital throughout his life, visiting home for only one day.  I spent many hours with him several times a week and getting to know him realised he had his own little ways to communicate with us.  He sadly left us 6 months later but will alway holds a special place in my heart.

About the charity

At Bluebell Wood we provide care to children & young adults whose lives are sadly just too short; both in their own homes and our hospice in North Anston. We believe that every family deserves to make magical memories with their child, we need to raise £14,000 each day to keep our doors open.
