Walking the Great Glen Way · 13 April 2019
Over the 2 week 2019 school Easter holidays, I am escorting 3 young children as they walk the 79 mile Great Glen Way, stretching from Fort William to Inverness. We are booked into backpacking hostels along the route.
They are raising money & awareness for the Farming Community Network (FCN). FCN support members of the farming community who are experiencing mental hardship, either through depression, stress & anxiety, social isolation or drug / alcohol dependency. I am aware that you have played a big part in setting up the new Facebook page, Mountains for the Mind. I am a member of that group & I too have struggled with my own mental health.
The three amazing children:
Penny is 11 years old & has a rare genetic condition called Turner Syndrome. This is a lifelong medical condition & Penny is registered disabled. This young lady is incredible & is a real inspiration to all who meet her. This is her toughest challenge to date. She is also my daughter.
Dominic is 10 years old & he is Penny’s brother (my son). He is also registered as a young carer for Penny & he is my absolute rock.
Charlie is 10 years old & he is Dominic’s best mate. We all live in the very rural & beautiful county of Shropshire & Charlie comes from a farming family.
In addition to raising money & awareness of this charity, we are also committed litter pickers on all the walks we do & we will be litter picking along the entire route.
Kindest regards
Fran
