Francoise's walk

To celebrate our 60th birthdays, Andrew and I decided to go on a very special trip to Peru and The Galapagos in April/May 2011. In order to be able to trek The Inca Trail, involving walking 46 km (including 2060m climb) over 4 days at the altitude of 4000m, we started training each week-end before Christmas, but our best efforts were soon hampered by the bad weather. We are however now back in earnest onto track! And I hope that my arthritic knees cope with it! The idea first, for me especially, is to get used to walking for 4 days, and not just on flat ground. And there won't be any pubs on the way! How lucky we are to live in Devon! But the hills above Sidmouth do not compare with the 4000 m in the Andes! We are however determined to rise to the challenge, and in order to focus and make sure we reach our goal, I have decided to raise some money at the same time for a very worthwhile local charity Hospiscare. As most of you know, my friend and colleague from St Margaret’s School in Exeter, Penny Barzey, sadly lost her long fight against cancer in September. She was fantastically looked after by the nurses attached to the Hospice in Exeter and I would dearly love to raise some money for them and in memory of Penny. I do hope that you can help!
