Story

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We've done it, 600 miles, mostly off road, across Northern Spain. The first 3 days were cold and torrential rain, rivers were bursting their banks and flooding local communities. Our path was sometimes a torrent of water, so it was time to get off and push!! The remaining 6 and a half days were just as hard in the heat, 28 -30 degrees. The uphills were steep and the downhills steeper and scary, however after passing through the most beautiful countryside we arrived, exhausted in Santiago de Compostella. we had made it a half day early. unfortunately our accommodation was 6 kilometres back in the direction we had come. Back on the bike!!

For those that have already contributed, many, many thanks. For those that have yet to, please give to a great and worthwhile charity. For those that are on the page and debating, just do it!!!

I kept a journal of the ride and its my intention to write up my adventure. I will send it to all those who have assisted myself and Mark on our undertaking

Having retired from the Fire and Rescue Service in 2008, I count myself extremely privileged to have served local communities for 33 years. Although having suffered a few minor injuries during that period, I count my blessings that I did not have to call upon the support of the Fire Fighters Charity, but many others do. So.......

Myself and a close friend Mark Moruzzi wanted to celebrate Mark's 50th by doing something different and worthwhile. We have decided to cycle the 'Camino de Santiago' which is a 600 mile pilgrimage route across northern Spain. This route takes up up to heights of 5000 feet and is 90% off road, which means mountain bikes and a hell of an amount of effort. We hope to complete the route in 10 days which equates to 60 miles a day off road. However every mile we cover to completion is rewarded with the fact that the monies raised will go to support a terrific charity doing excellent work with those that have suffered from fire, both directly and indirectly.
