MapAction Chiltern Challenge · 6 July 2012 to 8 July 2012 ·

MapAction believes that applying geospatial expertise to humanitarian situations can greatly improve outcomes for the people affected. Global humanitarian needs outstrip resources. Expert geospatial and data analysis can help stretch those resources for maximum impact. Many professionals want to donate their energy and skills to help. MapAction is the bridge which enables them to do so effectively. We are a non-profit organisation that collaborates with partners around the world to help anticipate, prepare for and respond to humanitarian emergencies. We strive to ensure governments, regional and local disaster management agencies and humanitarian responders have access to the information and analysis that they need to make key decisions, at the right times, to save lives and alleviate suffering. We are a team of around 100 people, 75% of them expert volunteers, plus a small roster of standby consultants. Combining the passion of volunteerism with the rigour and reliability of professional standards, the ‘MapAction spirit’ is something we work hard to maintain and the willingness of our team to go the extra mile is often fed back to us.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We're cycling for MapAction, a charity which works in disaster zones providing frequently updated situation maps showing where relief help is most urgently needed.  Mapping, geography and the environment is close to our hearts which is why we are supporting MapAction. We want to raise awareness and money to support the work they do.

We recently completed the MapAction 170 mile Chiltern Challenge which has been helpful training for the even larger challenge of the Lands End to John O’Groats (LEJOG) bike ride that Neil and I will be embarking on in August.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the Chiltern Challenge (despite the rain and the mud) we are now looking forward to the LEJOG trip, however please give us an incentive to continue on those dark days when the headwinds blow and midges are biting…
