Story
The four of us are running the "Bath Half" on Sunday 13th March - just over 13 miles (Bath is famously flat, right?!), to raise money for The Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund. We are very excited and nervous about the challenge... it will be Charlotte's first ever half marathon (after a number of impressive 10K and triathlons efforts), George's second (following ten 10K races last year!), and will be part of Clare's training for the London Marathon, and Tom's training for the Paris Marathon (both in April).
We're pleased (and relieved!) that we've been able to team up for this great challenge, to support each other during training and on the day, and also to join fundraising efforts... You won't just be sponsoring one of us - in fact, you won't just be sponsoring four of us either... we have joined an even bigger team - Team Jackie!
Team Jackie has raised over £210,000 in memory of Jackie Orme, who died from Pancreatic Cancer in 2012, aged just 46. Her husband David has organised over 50 runners to run the Bath Half (the biggest team at the event), and we are honoured to join them, and help raise money to fight this terrible disease. No amount is too small - the great thing with teamwork, is that it all adds up, and all makes a difference.
Pancreatic cancer (known as "the silent killer") has the worst survival rate of any common cancer. It is so aggressive, that by the time it’s diagnosed, 90% of people will be told that they are terminally ill and given 6-12 months to live. It is the UK’s 5th biggest cancer killer, yet receives less than 2% overall research funding. More information about the Pancreatic cancer, and the Cancer Research Fund, is available here - http://www.pcrf.org.uk
Many thanks for your support, and very best wishes,
George Worsley, Charlotte Keyser, Clare Ashton, and Tom Worsley xx
