Hello and thank you for visiting our Justgiving page. We are attempting to break the longest standing and most sought after record in Ocean Rowing... To set a new rowing speed record across the Atlantic Ocean. On the 3rd of December we will be setting out from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to row 2,961 miles, unsupported, across the Atlantic Ocean, to Antigua in the Caribbean. The Speed Record for rowing across the Atlantic Ocean was set way back in 1992 by a French crew on La Mondiale, a large 50ft, 12 man rowing boat- setting a time to beat of 35 days, 8 hours and 30 minutes. Many have tried to break the record, some have even come close, but all have fallen short, until now?! It is going to be an ultra tough endurance event, which will see the crew close to breaking point many times over. Heat, violent storms and the sheer effort of rowing non-stop, 24 hours a day will push each individual crew member to the limit of both their physical and mental boundaries. So please sit back, dig deep into those pockets and bask in the comfort and satisfaction that you have done the sensible thing of staying on land whilst sponsoring us doing the silly stuff! Please note that ALL monies donated through this "justgiving" site will go entirely to WaterAid. We chose WaterAid due to their close ties with what we as a crew will suffer first hand. With no fresh drinking water on board all our water will be made from using sea water. It will be our life line. The people WaterAid help suffer all the time from bad, un-hygienic water, usually contaminated causing illness and often death in the young and elderly. WaterAid works in many of the worlds poorest countries, providing and building clean drinking water sources, water in emergencies and also the educating of people affected. WaterAid go about it in a very educational way as well as a bit of toilet humour thrown in for good measure. For us the simple act of turning on a tap doesn't even register in our brain- to alot of people this is just not possible and involves a days effort just to gain. WaterAid's website is brilliant and well worth a visit at www.wateraid.org Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: WaterAid will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor us now and follow our progress at www.atlanticsix.com Many thanks for your support and please keep in touch. Thank you. (George, Guy, Simon, Mike, Ian and Ben)
