Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I've loved the island of Majorca since going there as a boy in 1970 and having a family property there I've seen main changes over the course of our regular visits. I know the island very well but probably my greatest knowledge is of the best restaurants to eat in and bars to go to!

BUT...not this time...!

My enthusiasm for cycling started last year when I cycled the South Downs Way and around the Isle of Wight. These were both incredible challenges, requiring persistence and a determination that comes naturally to me in business but not in Sport! Whilst cycling around the Isle of Wight in the wind and rain, a thought occurred to me - wouldn't it be nice to do this in some sun shine!

So on 6th April 2014 I'm taking my bike on Easyjet (hope it gets there in one piece!) and cycling the 200 miles around Majorca. The challenges will be the heat but most of all the mountains (the Traumantana) in the North of the Island. We start in the South heading East and by day two we expect to be starting to climb mountains. In the belief that what's goes up must come down, I believe the going down will be very much quicker, only to do another climb after. The other challenge will be the Spanish drivers! My only hope is they respect cyclists - Bradley Wiggins calls Majorca ‘Scalextrics for Cyclists’ and Team Sky practice there every Winter so hopefully I can take some hope from this that Majorca encourages cyclists!

Please sponsor me for whatever you feel appropriate - donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the Dame Vera Lynn Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy, a very worthwhile local charity.

Many, many thanks,
