Story

Sadly I am going to be unable to complete my challenge this year as I have been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis which makes walking very painful at times. I am currently receiving physiotherapy. Sorry to let the charity down but don't rule out me making a comeback another year.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Back in 2006 I had this crazy idea of walking marathons for charity in order to help me lose weight and keep fit. By the end of 2008 I had completed 10 marathons and 7 half marathons (walking),raising over £10000. I was a Headteacher then and had my schools to support me and I am still grateful to all those friends, colleagues and pupils who supported me then. I am no longer a Headteacher and now work in the travel business, so I am hoping that the people I come into contact with in that role will help me out!

My last outing in a marathon was in London in 2009, which I sadly failed to complete on that occasion. I was never slim, but since that time I have put on too many pounds and I realise that my own health is in danger and also at least 4 friends have died through one form or another of this dreadful disease. So Iain, Gwill, Phil and Dot this is in memory of you too. Never forgetting Jonathan Lees a young Aussie IT teacher who died some years ago, aged just 40. I still think of him.

I have twice completed the original marathon course from Marathon to Athens, so I am hoping to make it a hat trick this November. Not only that, but I have decided to revisit another marathon, which I completed in 2008,  Dublin, which will make it 2 marathons in 2 weeks. No pressure then!! Your support will be greatly appreciated and hopefully help Cancer Research UK in their endeavours to find effective treatments and cures.
