We are the charity of Leeds Teaching Hospitals. We support NHS staff to deliver the best care for over a million patients and their families each year. Donations fund life-saving equipment, treatments, research and home comforts. Whatever will make the biggest impact to the people who need it most.

Story

<p>Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.</p> <p>As you may know in February 2010, I was diagnosed with Kidney cancer. With the help of Jon Cartledge and his medical staff at St James' Hospital, they were able to lead me to a successful recovery.</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-family: &quot;Arial&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;"><span style="font-size: small;">In light of this we&nbsp;are currently raising money towards the purchase of a specialist diagnostic &lsquo;scope that will be greatly helped by your fund raising. We are completing the Yorkshire '3 Peaks' on Saturday 3rd September.</span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-family: &quot;Arial&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;"><span style="font-size: small;">One of the difficulties we face at the moment is in finding very small tumours in the lining of the kidney. </span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-family: &quot;Arial&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;"><span style="font-size: small;">In some patients we have results from Urine tests suggesting a tumour may be present in a kidney, but when we go looking for it at an investigative operation it cannot be seen. This can lead to a delayed diagnosis but certainly adds to the worry that a patient has to go through in not knowing whether they have a cancer or not.</span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-family: &quot;Arial&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;"><span style="font-size: small;">One way to improve the chances of seeing an otherwise hidden tumour is by using specialist diagnostic &lsquo;scopes.&nbsp; We would like to use the money you raise towards the purchase of one of these &lsquo;scopes to help in the diagnosis of these difficult to find tumours.</span></span></p> <p>So please dig deep and donate now.</p>
