Cyril Flint Volunteers Charity offers a premium befriending service to lonely and/or socially isolated older members of the community. They have a strong and dedicated team of volunteer befrienders and continue to recruit on an on-going basis. Their volunteers are trained and DBS Checked and are then matched with older people in their local community with whom they share interests or hobbies. This often leads to long lasting friendships.

They ask their volunteers to commit to befriending for at least one hour per week but many of their volunteers go above and beyond this, making a real difference to the older person they befriend.

Loneliness and isolation can have hugely detrimental effects on a person's physical and mental health and wellbeing; studies have shown that loneliness can increase a person's chances of developing depression and clinical dementia, amongst other illnesses.

Cyril Flint Volunteers currently has almost 100 volunteers who are actively befriending in the Greater Manchester Area and we want to raise funds to help them to increase this number and help more older people who are affected by loneliness and social isolation.

We will be completing the Great Manchester Run on Sunday 22nd May 2016. This is a 10k run and we are hoping by doing this we can gain sponsorship and raise funds to help get befrienders for more older people in the local community!
