Story

Anyone who knows me will probably realise I'm not the most athletic!  The furthest I've ever run is 10K and that was only a few weeks ago (June, Jane Tomlinson Run for All in Leeds), so this is a massive step up.

I'm doing the run, plain and simple.  I'm training hard now and confident I can do it, but I've decided that I shouldn't just do it for myself.  Why should I when I can do it and help others at the same time, right?  So, I'm running for the Prince of Wales Hospice, Pontefract.

The hospice helps people with a life-limiting illness, but it doesn't end there.  They provide support for families and friends of those people too, something that can be overlooked.  Hell if I had a family member with terminal cancer I'd need help too, wouldn't you?

The hospice costs £1.8 million to run each year, with less than a third of that coming from the government, so any additional help is greatly received.

But don't take my word for it, go check them out...  http://www.pwh.org.uk/home

Update - 14/7... I'm knackered, and not from the training either.  Due off from work at midnight I finally got away just after 5 in the morning.  Part of the job I guess, but an additional challenge to the training.  Luckily today's training run is only a shorter one... just the 4 miles then.  I'm consistently running 44 to 45 minutes at a 5 mile distance, which is decent, but I'm trying to find myself a pace where i can sustain a longer distance.  Last week I clocked up 14 miles in 3 runs, this week the target is the same.  Received my sponsorship pack from the hospice today too so those are going to be distributed around to help with the fundraising.  It really is all go!

Update - 12/8... It's been a few weeks of torture!  Not the running, WORK!  Lots of working over and getting stuck with tiring jobs have taken their toll, plus a trip away to a wedding (which was a lot of fun) have really hit my energy levels.  BUT..... I am still running, been 2 runs this week, 8 miles and today a power 4 miles (speedwork really hits your legs and lungs!).  Plan is to run 10 miles on friday.  I say the plan is, if the legs aren't right after todays speed session, then I'll delay until saturday.  But it will be done!  Also had my first donation on the page (thank you Andrea) and decided to crop the hair off (what's left of it anyway) if I reach the target.
