Story

YES!   I did it....

I am delighted to say at I finished in 3:50:20.    With all the injuries, physio, accupuncture, foam rolling, anti-inflammatory drugs, massage and controlled diet/training plan....it was worth it!    I also got to meet some of the kids who we support and the teacher who is on Variety Club You Tube clip.   Really, really rewarding.  Another marathon...I hear you say!  NO WAY!   ....or at least not for a few years yet.   Next goal....mmm, Mount Everest?? ha!

Thank you so much to all my supporters (and those still to come!!) for the texts, emails, calls and encouragement.  Also, to all of those who missed me (I was running too fast!), thank you for coming out to cheer on the day!

With a £2000 goal, I know that every pound counts.  Please keep me going (post race is just as hard...very, very stiff!) and help raise money for a great charity.  Below is old weekly update information.

Thank you for your support.

Gary's Diary

Weekend 18/04/2010

Good race today.  1 hour and so the last of long runs.   Some pain but a lot of gain.  Looking forward to the big one.  In the meantime, lots of foam roller and anti-inflammatories!!!

Weekend 11/04/2010

What a week.  Several hiccups due to muscle pains and strains.  Feeling bad about not getting another LONG 16 - 18 mile run in, but my motivation is seriously high.  For those who don't know, I am now spending 30 mins twice a day on my foam roller (deep tissue massage) and popping some Voltarol anti-inflamatories.   Maybe I will float through the race!!

Weekend 20/03/2010

Tough week!   Knee causing some trouble so laid off the long run and focused on my cardio, completing 10km run and a further 25km on the bike!  Getting stuck into my "foam roller" and self physio.  Back to physio next week for more knee manipulation and accupuncture.  Ouch!

Weekend 13/03/2010

Wow!   Today was a big challenge.  30km really has left me shattered.  But, this is a good milestone and is about as far as i should go before the real race.  Having taken 2h 35 mins I am happy and I still have a little more time to practice the same distance for a few more weeks....  Now, where is the Voltarol pain relief.

Weekend run 06/03/2010

Having notched up my first big run last weekend, today was a goal to do a little more but without last weekend's dehyrdration and feeling awful.   So, at 25.9km and feeling good, it was worth it.   The only issue was a very dramatic fall on to a pavement having dodged some people in my way.   Hope they weren't laughing, but luckily it was only a minor grazing and a shock.   Next weekend... 30km...fingers crossed....
