Story

21/11/10  Update

We have been back over a month now and we are still receiving donations. We have now reached £4,575, which is way higher than I ever expected, with my original target being £3,000. I am amazed and grateful to all our friends for their generosity. The latest photo is of me and Louisa, who is very happy and proud that we have been able to support the charity in such a big way.

 27/10/2010 Update

The donations are still coming in and we are all grateful to those of you who have supported us. Kim Paterson from the RBSI in the Isle of Man presented Paul and myself with two cheques today for £690 each, as a result of monies raised within the bank. Many thanks to all those in RBSI technology and the staff.

18/10/10 Update

I am pleased to report that on Friday 15th October, we completed our ride in Catania in Sicily. In all, we cycled 1222 miles over a period of 20 consecutive days. This averaged out at approximately 100 kilometres per day.

Our fund raising efforts are going very well and we hope to reach £10,000 in total for both charities.

You can read about our experiences on our website https://sites.google.com/site/jerseybikers/ .

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Together with two friends, Paul Taylor and Andrew Malins, we decided over two years ago to "cycle Italy". Since then, we have been busy planning the trip and training.Paul and I leave Jersey on 24th September and meet up with Andrew in Paris, on the following day. We then travel on by train to Munich, then Innsbruck and then to Brenner in Austria.

Our cycle starts from the Brenner Pass, then down through Italy, to Catania in Sicily, which we estimate will be approximately 1100 miles. We have allowed just under three weeks to complete our cycle and estimate that we will be cycling between 60 and 80 miles each day, depending on terrain, which will make it quite a challenge, as we've all passed the half century mark! In addition, we are undertaking this challenge totally unsupported and will be carrying all our kit on the bikes and staying in small hotels/hostels each night, along the way.

We are supporting two charities, one being Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the other being Autism Jersey. As many of you will know, my 15 year old daughter Louisa, has Asperger's Syndrome and Autism Jersey have been very supportive over the years to Louisa and our family, hence the reason for wishing to support the charity. Both Andrew and Paul have family who have been afflicted with breast cancer, hence their reason for wishing to also support Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
