Story

Welcome to my fundraising page for the

CAMBRIDGE HALF MARATHON 2016.

Who am I and what am I doing?

I am Gary Edgerton, I work at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge and I have decided to take the opportunity of my Cambridge Half Marathon entry to raise money for two Cambridgeshire based charities, the East Anglia'a Children's Hospices (EACH) [EACH JustGiving Pageand The Fitzwilliam Museum on this JustGiving page.

The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge celebrates its 200th birthday in 2016 and the first major exhibition of this special year is Death on the Nile.

Death on the Nile: Uncovering the afterlife of ancient Egypt.

This exhibition goes beyond the images of mummies, pharaohs and mystery often associated with ancient Egypt. It shows how coffin design developed over 4,000 years, reflecting significant changes both in status of affluent ancient Egyptians and in the gods that were important to them.

This exhibition opens on Tuesday 23 February 2016 and the first Sunday of this exhibition is the same day as the Cambridge Half Marathon on Sunday 28 February 2016.

My chosen charity - The Fitzwilliam Museum.

There are so many good causes to choose from, so why choose The Fitzwilliam Museum?

I have not chosen The Fitzwilliam Museum because I am employed by the museum. I have chosen the museum to support its outreach work for the Cambridgeshire/East Anglia community and in particular EACH.

The Fitzwilliam Museum's Learning Team run art related projects with schools across the region, they work with Addenbrookes Hospital and run art appreciation courses for those diagnosed with dementia.

The Learning Team also run special Museum days for families supported by EACH and the money raised on this page will be used to support theses activities.
