Hello everyone,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year I secured my own place in the Virgin London Marathon via the ballot so I decided to run for Mesothelioma UK.
This charity means a lot to me aswell as the whole family. In 2007 Nan was diagnosed with Mesothelioma and within a few months she had passed away. Not a day goes by without me thinking of her, whether it be just reminiscing about the good times or just missing her generally. I dont have enough fingers to count the number of times Nan made us all laugh when we were little as well as over the last few years before her untimely death. She was always funny but she never knew how funny she really was. I wish Nan was still around today not just because I miss her so much but because I know how much my Grandad, Auntie and Mother are still hurting about what happened.
As we approach the third anniversary of Nan's passing, we are still having great difficulty in trying to determine the exact time and place Nan was in contact with Asbestos. We have solicitors acting on behalf of the family in order to obtain the justice Nan deserves.
This dreadful form of cancer affects thousands of people and will continue to do so over the next few decades. This is mainly due to the fact that itn can take many years after being exposed to asbestos for mesothelioma to occur. The length of time taken is referred to as the latency period and is usually between 15-45 years.
Mesothelioma UK is a resource centre dedicated to Mesothelioma. They provide information and support for people affected by Mesothelioma and have a national free phone helpline (0800 169 2409) that provides access to impartial, accurate and relevant advice specific to mesothelioma for patients, carers and health care professionals. Callers to the helpline can access specialist nurse clinical advice, booklets and factsheets and can also be put in touch with local sources of information and support including, for patients and carers, contact with their local nurse specialist and local or nearest support group and for health care professional's they organise numerous training and educational events, regular news bulletins, have established a National Mesothelioma Nurse Action Team and generally support health care teams in the management of Mesothelioma patients. They collaborate with all other interested parties to raise awareness about Mesothelioma and the dangers of asbestos and coordinate events surrounding Action Mesothelioma Day in July of each year.
I've just started my training and am aiming to finish in under 4 hours which would be a personal best. I know it's going to take a lot of effort and I'll need to break the pain barrier to achieve this, however, it's nothing compared to the pain my Nan was suffering in the last few months of her life.
I would ask you all to dig deep and please sponsor me in my 4th London Marathon so that we can all help Mesothelioma UK to provide advice and support to the thousands of sufferers out there as well as research into new forms of treatment.
If you would like to sponsor me, it couldn't be easier. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
