On the 13th to 15th August I am going to partake in this charity event with 22 others.
So why do this?
I hope that by showing a bit of get up and go I can persuade you to part with a little cash to help a very special charity.
On 18th September 1998 my wife's sister Karen passed away, just one year after being diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia. She was 23.
The Karen Morris Memorial Trust (KMMT) is a charity set up by my wife and her mother Sylvia to continue Karen’s fundraising initiative.
The KMMT's main objective is to provide facilities for leukaemia patients and their families which would not otherwise be available, thus alleviating just a little the emotional and physical pain at what is inevitably a very bleak period in their lives.
To date two Homes from Home have opened at Hammersmith Hospital, London and at Churchill Hospital, Oxford. Discussions are in place with other leading haematology departments at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge and Queen Elizabeth, Birmingham.
In addition the charity also provides alternative therapists, counsellors and support nurses at various other hospitals throughout the UK.
Thanks in advance for your support
Gary
