My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Along with a number of my fantastic work colleagues I am trekking The Great Wall of China in April 2013 to collectively raise at least £30k for Brain Tumour Research.
Brain Tumour Research is important to me and my family because my daughter Abigail was, in Feb 2011 at the age of 9 diagnosed with a brain tumour. Sadly on 10th November 2012 my beautiful, brave, inspiring, courageous angel passed away after a long and tough battle against this evil disease.
Over the last 2 years as a family we have come to understand that Brain Tumour Research is vastly underfunded and requires £7million a year to continue valuable and necessary research into this condition. If you look on www.braintumourresearch.org you will see some startling facts that will convince you just how important our fund raising event and others like it are.
We are looking to you to help us achieve our collective goal by donating. Whether you can donate £1, £10, £100 or more, I urge you to please just give what you can, anything will help.
For those of you who will now donate, thank you so much, for those who don't please take some time to look at the web site www.braintumourresearch.org , have a think and then come back and donate - it will make you feel good that you have contributed to a really good and needy cause.
Thanks to every one for looking at my page and........don't forget to tick the GIFT AID SECTION, this adds 25% on top of your donation by way of the government scheme, you give the donation value and the charity claims the extra through the scheme off the government, not you.
Gary
My updates 5
Reading my previous update looks like I'm comparing Abigail's treatment with training which I'm not, I take inspiration from how she dealt with it so I can deal with the obstacles facing me - she was 100 times more brave and more determined than I could ever be, a superstar!!
Started training again today preparing for the trek, was tough but I'm inspired by how my beautiful daughter Abigail dealt with her tough times over the last 20 months with a smile and positive achieving attitude, I must follow her example! Miss you sweetheart, love always xx
Hi, thanks to everyone who has donated to date and to those who have donated after seeing our article regarding Abigail in The Bolton News Monday 26th November, your support is really appreciated. Gary.
Watched 'an idiot abroad' last week the one when he went to China - what the hell will I eat when I';m there?? Looks like a week of bush tucker trials to me - lol!!! If you've not seen the episode try and get it, you'll see - suit case full of Monster Munch for me aswell I think!
Been to the gym today with baldy Lee from work trying to get to grips with some cardio exercise, it was hard work!! By the time the trek comes around I'll be sorted though - need to be, there'll be no-one who could carry me along that wall!!
My charity
Brain Tumour Research
Charity Registration No. 1093411
In the UK more children and people under 40 die of a brain tumour than any other cancer and yet it receives less than 1% of national cancer research spending. Our goal is to raise funds to accelerate progress in UK brain tumour research, make a clinical difference and improve patient outcomes.
