Gary Lock is retiring at the end of September 2010, a momentous occasion! Rather than having any retirement gifts (people have offered - many thanks!), Gary has requested that anyone interested could make a donation to Education for Democracy in South Africa (EDSA), which is an Oxford based charity on which he has been an active trustee for the last 20 years, raising money for educational projects in South Africa. Two of the current projects are in need of urgent funding now - Net Vir Pret an after school and holiday project working with children from isolated rural areas and SAMLA a reading and writing project in Gugulethu an urban Xhosa township. Both projects need funds to support staffing and other costs. It costs £8500 per year to employ a Youth and Community worker who is pivotal in making the projects work. All projects are regularly monitored and funds are spent wisely.
