Last year I turned 50!, and foolishly thought ‘out loud’ that I would like to see if I could cycle from Lands End to John O Groats. So, while I'm at it I want to raise money for Alzheimer Scotland.

I’ve just taken charge of a shiny new ride so now there's no holding me back; well apart from the lack of training, my lower back problems, failing eyesight; poor sense of direction....and did I mention I’ll be camping? Yes! Those of you who know me, know I like my home comforts, so 13 nights under canvas is a test in itself! I’ve cycled the Great Glen Way and Speyside Way before, so for this challenge, I know I need back up. My in-laws, Rita and Ian have agreed to come with me using their motor home as support vehicle (check out the photo). Believe me, I’ll need it! Jamie (no.1 son) and John, my brother-in-law will also be cycling with me.

So, team Roberts’ trip starts at Lands End on 4th July finishing in John O’ Groats on 17th July.  I’m planning to cycle 60-70 miles each day (one a possible 100 miles). I know I can do it, but the encouragement I get from you through messages of support and generous donations, will help me get there.

Dementia affects the lives of so many people in Scotland and the chances are that everyone knows someone whose life has changed because of this illness. I know Alzheimer Scotland does good work to provide services and support; visit their website at www.alzscot.org and you’ll see what I mean; but with approximately 71,000 people with dementia in Scotland, they need all the help we can give them. I hope you’ll feel able to give whatever you can, to help me reach my target of £1,000.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now. We've set up a blog (www.teamroberts.wordpress.com/) to keep people updated on how we're doing with our training and on the trip itself so messages of support and encouragement will really help.
