Walking up Kilamanjaro · 9 January 2010

We are the charity of Leeds Teaching Hospitals. We support NHS staff to deliver the best care for over a million patients and their families each year. Donations fund life-saving equipment, treatments, research and home comforts. Whatever will make the biggest impact to the people who need it most.

Story

Hi

In January 2009 my mum Jackie aged 59 years 9 months donated a kidney to her sister and my Auntie Rosemary. As of December 2009 both are doing superbly well.

Over 20 years ago my uncle Pete gave Rosemary one of his kidneys and it lasted until mum donated hers.

The renal unit at St James Hospital Leeds have performed wonders as all three family members, Pete, Rosemary and my mum Jackie are fighting fit.

On January 8th 2010, my good friend Neil Blythe and i are walking up the mighty Mount Kilamanjaro - i thought it would be a fantastic idea to raise funds for St James's Hospitals Renal Unit.

As many of you will be aware this walk is going to be both physically and mentally gruelling - many do not reach the top suffering from altitude sickness.

I respectfully request you donate just a little of your hard earned income so that we can make successful kidney transplants around the UK more likely as a result of the St James Hospital.  For those who don't know St James is a teaching hospital where students once completing their training move to a hospital right near you.

Please donate charitably and if you want to donate a penny a step - i would love to take you up on that!!

Many thanks
