Newcastle Hospitals Charity is the official Charity of Newcastle Hospitals. Home of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and the Great North Children's Hospital, we help our hospitals go further by making a positive difference for our patients, staff and communities.

Story

Firstly a big thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

So why are you here?  Well this year I've decided to do the world famous Ironman Lanzarote

Ironman Lanzarote is an 'Iron' distance triathlon, comprising a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and 26.2 mile marathon, all completed back to back on the same day - which I hope to complete under 12 hours, which should seriously test me with the baking heat and Atlantic winds.

With both the event date and its enormity bearing down on me rapidly, it seemed far too good an opportunity to miss to raise money for a worthwhile cause.

So - now for the charity bit - please bear with me...........

..............Sir Bobby Robson Foundation

Sir Bobby Robson fought cancer an incredible five times. Sadly, 17 years after his first diagnosis, he lost that long and courageous battle on 31 July 2009. He died very peacefully at his County Durham home with his wife and family beside him.

During the last 18 months of his life, and after retiring from football management, Sir Bobby worked hard towards a new goal - fighting cancer through his charity.

The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation focuses on the early detection and treatment of cancer and the clinical trials of new drugs that will eventually beat it.

Because he touched so many people, there have been no shortage of supporters of the Foundation - including the late Gary Speed who ran the London Marathon for the Foundation, before his sudden death. Gary's death touched a lot of people both down in here in Chester where he lived and also in Newcastle where he became a true legend playing for the Newcastle United under Sir Bobby.

I have set an ambitious target but hope you can dig deep for such a worthy cause and such a big challenge.
