Well, we did it and lived to tell the tale. Very proud of Lucy, who finished the 80 miles and all with a bad cold!

Our last bike ride is 80 miles this Sunday (30th). Please help us support Make-A-Wish UK.

A huge thank you for your support and very generous donation for our Make-A-Wish fundraising.

As you are aware, our plan was to travel to China and walk along the Great Wall. However, we have found it extremely challenging to raise the necessary minimum funding that Make-A-Wish specify. Not everyone is as open-minded and unconditionally giving as yourselves and we've regularly been told by others that they don't see why they should have to pay for our holiday, even though we explained we have paid our expenses for the trip already. We also found that no matter how much we promoted it via social media or email, the fund-raising was still falling spectacularly short of where it was supposed to be.

Therefore, we have reluctantly decided to pull out of the organised Great Wall Trek, but will still be embarking on a very demanding yet wonderfully fulfilling fund-raiser of our own. We have contacted Make-A-Wish and they are as sad about the decision as we are, but are pleased that we are continuing to support their excellent charity and are thrilled to hear that we have an alternative plan.

Both of us are keen cyclists, so we have decided during Summer 2012 to cycle from London to Norwich, a trip of roughly 137 miles. This will be done in two stages, utilising the organised road events of the London to Cambridge and Cambridge to Norwich bike rides. We will also be doing training rides and another longer ride inbetween the two which, which will all be added to the total milage.

So we would like to thank you once again for your altruistic pledge to a very special charity that's close to our hearts and want to stress that every penny will still be passed onto them.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
