Story
The Background in my Wifes words
My name is Michele and we have set up this website to raise money to be able to send my husband Gary for medical treatment in America. Gary has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour called a Glioblastoma Multiforme and he is due to start a course of Radio and Chemotherapy in March 2013 to slow down the growth of the tumour. We have been told he cannot be cured by this treatment but unfortunately it is the only treatment the NHS can offer.
Funds are needed to give him the opportunity to have life-saving treatment at The Burzynski Clinic in Houston, Texas. A video explaining their extraordinary work can be found on You Tube.
Gary's Story
Gary and I met in February 2006 after two weeks of talking on the phone and internet for hours. I knew as soon as we spoke that he was special. He has a fantastic sense of humour and made me laugh out loud. When we met face to face for the first time the chemistry was very evident to both of us. We were married in December 2008 and had an amazing day with family and close friends. My son Shaun flew back from traveling around Australia as a surprise so that he could give me away and what a fantastic surprise that was, as we had no idea about his plans. That made the day even more special for both of us. Gary has two daughters, Stephanie and Melissa who are also getting very involved with fundraising along with Shaun and our family and friends.
Gary means everything to me and so when we were recently told of the diagnosis and then the prognosis I was not willing to accept it and thought that there had to be someone out there that could help us. That was when I came across the Burzynski Clinic.
The Fundraising
We have set up a fundraising page to raise money to travel to Texas and start the treatment. We have watched in awe at people’s kindness as the donations continue to come in each day.
Unfortunately this treatment is not available on the NHS so we have to pay for it ourselves, the cost (including travel and associated UK costs for private medical care) is approximately £90,000 per year and patients can require anything from 2 to 4 years treatment.
Your kind donations will allow Gary the chance of returning to a normal life with our family. After forwarding Garys medical records to Dr Burzynski we have received confirmation that they can help him, which is fantastic news. The next step is to raise enough funds to send him there for treatment and time is of the essence.
*100% of your donation goes to Gary and any Gift Aid funds go directly to our sponsoring charity "Yes To Life" http://www.yestolife.org.uk
YES TO LIFE is a new charitable initiative to open up a postive future for people with cancer in the UK by supporting an integrative approach to cancer care
