Story
10th July 2012
Thank you all so much for helping me smash the target we set. Saturday was a great day and, despite the weather (and 25,000 runners) I finished 1485th with a time of 49.13. Sonny would have been very proud...
Our son, Sonny was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. After nearly two years in hospital, countless treatments and relapses, the decision was made to undertake a bone marrow transplant, organised through the amazing Anthony Nolan.
Despite his fight, spirit and an unwavering belief that he would one day play for Arsenal, Sonny died in Great Ormond Street Hospital last May.
Although we lost him, at least we had a chance. For every child that receives a transplant, another does not. Your money will help recruit more donors who will ultimately save the lives of those that desperately need it. This is the last option for children like Sonny and after what most of them will have been through to get to this point, they deserve that chance.
Sonny left us with lots of things, including humour, strength, tenacity and knowledge. But most of all, he taught us that we should never, ever give up. I certainly won't during my race.
Thanks for taking the time to find out why I'm running. Please give whatever you can and if you want to find out more about becomming a donor visit www.anthonynolan.org
