Thames Path Challenge 2013 · 14 September 2013 to 15 September 2013 ·

Mencap wants a world where people with a learning disability gain an equal right to choice opportunity and respect. We believe that support for the families and carers of people with a learning disability is vital to achieving our vision

Story

Many of you will know that I have done endurance events before. Ive done half-marathons, full marathons, the 3 Peaks. I've stayed in bars long after I should have gone home.

I've never done anything like this though and I'm somewhere between terrified and incredibly excited. It's not a race, but a challenge. Our aim is to get near the 15 hour mark, that marks it out as an ultra-marathon (some people will be walking it in 25 hours) and we will do our absolute best. My friend Sam Lacey will be there throughout. 15 plus hours of my chat, imagine that.....

Other than the personal challenge, I'm doing this for Mencap. They are an amazing charity who I worked for as a teenager, running summer activity weeks for mentally handicapped children. Not only was this something special for the children, but also for their parents, who got a little break for themselves. It was without a doubt the most rewarding thing I have done in my life and now as a parent myself reminds me how blessed I am and how loving, caring and patient those parents were.

Anything that you can give will help Mencap with the incredible work that they do and I will be enternally grateful. I have no doubt that over 60 plus miles of running/jogging/walking/crawling there will be dark moments. Knowing that people have supported Mencap and I, will force me to keep going.
