Story

In a mad moment, I decided that perhaps it was time for my shiny, new road bike to experience what life is like on the other side of the Channel ! So, I set myself the challenge of getting fit enough to cycle the 226mls from Goring to Paris, with of course the aim of having enough energy left, to celebrate at the end !
To spur me on, I have decided to try to raise as much money as possible for the Oxfordshire branch of Sailability, based at Farmoor reservoir.

This is a wonderful organisation which provides the opportunity for people with a variety of disabilities, to be able to experience the joy and exhilaration of sailing , on their own or with a ' Buddy ' sitting beside them .

At Farmoor ,Sailability sessions are run by volunteers every Tuesday evening, ( weather permitting ! ) , from around Easter time to October and other events and regattas are attended , in different parts of the country.

Recently a 10 year project to provide a pontoon equipped with a lift , hoists and the facility to enable everyone to get on and off board , without getting their feet wet ( fab ! ) , was completed . It was opened by Jeff Holt , a quadriplegic sailor who started his disabled sailing career , at Farmoor and achieved the incredible feat of sailing round Britain, in a Challenger , a trimaran used by many Sailability organisations .

So , if you know of anyone who might be inspired by Jeff's example or who just fancy ' having a go ! ' , get them to come along !

In the meantime , funds have to be raised locally ,to run this amazing facility , which gives pleasure to so many . Not only do the boats have to be maintained , but there are several extra costs , some of which are huge such as insurance and other expenses , for example ,club fees and training expenses, to name but a few , which have to be paid annually.

Any donations which will enable Oxford Sailability to continue to offer the best opportunities possible, will be truly appreciated by all those involved .

Happy sailing !

Gay
