Providing information, support and access to established, new or innovative treatments for Atrial Fibrillation (AF)

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the Windsor half marathon this year and want to use it as a way of giving back and showing gratitude for the the fact that I can do it!  Yes even at my tender age!!

Why AFA? Recently, a life long friend of mine mentioned she had had several episodes atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat. She had been to the Doctors about it and was on aspirin. Sounded minor enough but when I checked it out, not so.  Atrial fibrulation has a significant risk of stroke and it seems that with AF especially paroyxial or intermittent AF - a stroke can happen anytime, anywhere during an episode!!  It often affects in their seventies and beyond but but younger people are sometimes affected too, like my friend who is in her fifites.

The AFA provides information to help those affected to fully understand this condition, the risks and treatment options. My friend is now pursuing a treatment option that is likely to remove the risk altogether.  Imagine that - having a continual risk of a life destroying stroke at any moment or a one off treatment that completely cures you? I'd like to support AFA in helping others to be understand this condition and able to make informed treatment choices.

Your supporting me and this worthy cause will make all the difference to me and my motivation both in my training and on the day!  I've been training hard all year and have recently run 12 miles so I am only 1 mile off my target!
