Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. As you can see from the picture, we made it to the Eiffel Tower!!!

Day One

The first day was a real struggle, for me at least - everyone seemed to be gliding by whilst i just couldn't seem to get going. Seriously questioning if i would make it to the ferry at Dover. Thanks to the kind Doctor for carrying my bag and Chris for massaging my damaged should every 20mins we made it just in time!!! Hooray!! There were cheers when we finally arrived at Dover!! We arrived in Paris in the dark and cycled convoy to our hotel for a well earned sleep.

Day Two

Down for breakfast, full english was the order of the day with a lingering smell of deep heat muscle rub, this smell will always remind me of this cycle ride!! I was very nervous about today but determined to get on with it. My tyres were pumped up and ready to go. After many hills and drink stops (mmm tracker bars....) we arrived in Arras and were not last..... an improvement!! A three course meal was organised by Discover Adventure but we were too tired and missed dessert. Hobbled up the stairs to our room, unable to bend my knee without pain! and we've still got two days to go!

Day 3

I had dreaded this day before we even began the bike ride. I thought it would be the hardest mentally and physically. What a suprise, it was amazing. Long stretches of countryside with more downhills than up it was a refreshing change. The weather throughout the challenge has been amazing and today did not dissapoint. After a few times getting lost, we were on the right track to Compiegne (following the orange signs!). Evening meal and off to bed, can't believe that there is only one day to go!!

Day 4

The day we have all been waiting for, all 130 cyclist will hopefully arrive at the Eiffel Tower in one piece! Set off at 7:30am and again, its a nice cycle, a few 'cheeky hills' as they kept calling them (i would have said more like mountains!) but anyway, its a shorter day today with only 57miles and its the final push. Everyone was on a high today, making the most of the sunshine and taking many pictures. Can't believe its going to be over today! We were doing well for time and then i lost Chris, another cyclist told me that he was back down the hill i had just cycled up.......and his chain had fallen off!! I gave him a little time to put the chain back on (i didn't want to have to cycle up the hill again if i didn't have to!!)  and then he came round the corner and cycled up the hill - brilliant! Were off again.

After nearly killing myself and another couple of cyclist by cycling head on into oncoming traffic on the entry into Paris (arrrrggghhhh, scary) we made it to the meeting point at a park in Paris. Following an ice cream, we were on our way in convoy to the Eiffel Tower, the highlight of the trip. With people cheering in the street, cars beeping their horns and all cyclists cheering and ringing their bells it was amazing. Then came the arc de triomph roundabout - best way to do this was scream hysterical laughter with one arm waving frantically at the nearest cars and hope for the best. We made it, the Eiffel Tower in sight.

Emotions were running high at this point, the finale! Then we were greeted by a Parisian family who have been affected by Huntingtons Disease. With banners, champagne and lots of tears we were the last to leave and head to the hotel.

What an amazing journey, and such a well worthy cause.

Thank you so much for your support!

Lots of Love

Gem & Chris xxxx

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am taking on the challenge of cycling from London to Paris in aid of the Huntingtons Disease Association (HDA). A cause close to my heart as my family have been affected by Huntingtons Disease. On the 01/09/2010 I will be starting my journey in and arriving in 4 days later; cycling approximatley 300 miles.

Huntingtons Disease attacks the brain leaving loved ones unable to walk, talk, eat or perform the most simple of tasks that many of us take for granted on a daily basis. At the moment with no treatment or cure Huntingtons Disease is fatal . Please help me to raise as much money as possible, so the HDA can continue with their great work in helping sufferers across the UK.

The Huntingtons Disease Association is a charity dedicated to improving the health and well being of 6,000 - 10,000 sufferers and their families across the .

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
