Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Now as you may already be aware I quite enjoy running and have taken part in many races over the year including bizarre zombie runs, muddy 10ks, colour runs, obstacle course races and some 'proper' 10k and half marathon races. After completing my first half marathon in Hong Kong I said never again. The long training schedule and the never ending route of the 13 mile race soon became a distant memory and I signed up to another half marathon in my hometown, Coventry. It'll be fun I said. And yes, it was fun to run through my beloved Cov streets whilst singing-"I'm a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva, I'm gonna go go go, There's no stopping me" in my head over and over for motivation. But I found it tough and so said I think I'll stick to 10k's.

So when I was looking at the calendar for 2017 and deciding which races to enter I surprised myself when I was looking at marathons. And then all of a sudden I had found I had entered the Edinburgh Marathon. No turning back... Ok, so I'm doing this then... I thought. Well why not make it worth it and run for a purpose?

Finding the purpose was easy. For the past 8 months I have worked for The Disabilities Trust at Fen House in Ely. Fen House is a brain injury rehabilitation unit that provides residential rehabilitation for individuals with acquired brain injury. I have had the pleasure of working alongside talented and caring support staff and clinicians to provide rehabilitation to our service users- who I am continually impressed and inspired by. Brain injury can affect anyone and recovering from a brain injury is tough for the individuals and their loved ones. However, with the right support service users can be enabled to function as independently as possible. With your donations Fen House can continue to provide much needed support to those with acquired brain injury. Every single penny donated is much appreciated!

Many Thanks,

Gemma x
