Story
I am running the London Marathon to raise funds for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity. I’m doing this for several reasons, because of the help and support given to my brother-in-law John who was diagnosed with Bowel cancer. John received outstanding care at Clatterbridge and his family fantastic help and support. John recovered and has been able to resume a normal life. But I am also running in memory of my friend Will who was not so fortunate and sadly passed away age 49. Will’s family told me before he went into Clatterbridge as an inpatient and while he was staying there they felt he received the best available treatment. On the day he was admitted the staff stayed late on a Friday night night to make sure that he received his radiotherapy as quickly as possible. ‘The ward was calm and the staff were very supportive and we felt they did all they could for him’.
Although Will's treatment did not ultimately save his life we feel it is very important to raise money to enable other local people to have such good support and access to a centre of expertise without having to travel a long way.
I am privileged to have been given the only silver bond charity place in the London Marathon this charity has, please help me make best use of it to raise as much as I can for them. I want to do this because of the help and support Clatterbridge continue to provide to others in their time of need. I have an online blog recording my thoughts, training and preparation for the marathon at geofftherunner.wordpress.com
